    Locally many nonprofits are experiencing serious difficulties as they respond to the economic downturn resulting in staff reductions and the closure of programs and services. Also cited in the study were significantly increased levels in demands for human and social services.

    The Social Planning Council of Cambridge and North Dumfries (SPC-CND) held its fourth annual Poverty Symposium on May 27th, 2009. The theme of this year's event was "Building Inclusive Organizations: The experiences of new immigrants and refugees in Cambridge and North Dumfries".

    Our Communities, Our Health and Our Future

    The final product of the Ontario Healthy Communities Coalition's Healthy Communities and the Built Environment project has been completed. The development and production of 'Our Communities, Our Health and Our Future: Understanding and Changing the Built Environment' was coordinated by the Social Planning Council of Cambridge and North Dumfries. The purpose of this publication is to provide information related to the HCBE project and to convey additional information and resources in specific topic areas. Case studies are used to showcase community-based efforts to create healthy communities./p>
