DataWorks - Project Summary

The SPC has recognized the need to develop a resource that speaks to non-profits and their need to understand, obtain, and utilize technology the way that it is meant to be used. DataWorks is our answer to that need. With your help we are currently working on a contact management database to be made available free to all non-profits, a network infrastructure model, open source (free) software solutions, and a place to turn to obtain the best advice in order to keep your computers and network running at the level they were designed to.

Demands are increasing and the technology you house may very well hold the answers to alleviating the constant drain on your valuable time and resources. We want to hear from you, what your needs are. Help us to better understand the issues that plague your infrastructure. Together we can forge the new boundaries of community and ensure that data works as hard for us as we do for it!

SPC's DataWorks PAN

What is the DataWorks PAN?. PAN is an acronym for Public Access Network. It is a network of public access internet points hosted in local community centres and service provision points. It is a grass roots answer to a high tech need. We all benifit when the base level of technological understanding is elevated. DataWorks PAN gives quality high speed interenet access to those whom do not have this resource available otherwise. So who uses the PAN? Students meeting base study requirements, employee's suddenly faced with the challenges of skills upgrades, potential workforce members searching job banks, new immigrants keeping in touch with family and friends....the list is as endless and varied as the faces that make up our community.

Are you someone, or do you know of someone that might benifit from this type of service? Send us an email at jana@socialplanningcouncil-cnd.org "How do I find an access point" in the subject line and we will see to it that you are connected!

Maybe you are a representative from a local community group that would like to know what you could do to be a part of this new development? Click here and download a printable copy of our Service Aggreement then give us a call. We will see if we cannot toss you into the PAN as well!

DataWorks db

The Social Planning Council's DataWorks Project working with Dolphin Digital Technologies is putting together a prototype model utilizing a contact management db that will ultimately be given to non-profits free of charge. This model will have a group of five local Tri-Cities organizations collecting data in a uniform manner. The 2007 year will be one of testing and development leading to the realization of a DataBase utility designed by non-profits for non profits...Free Of Charge. An immediate outcome with be the first tool in a technologies toolkit that will allow community organizations to have access to a piece of software that will truly enable them to function the way they need to. From here, the possibilities of a non-profit community utilizing complimentary software structures are endless! Stay tuned to find out the progress and of this exciting model.
